Dallas has an impressive selection of art museums and galleries that will certainly tickle the senses of any art-lover. Many of these galleries are concentrated in the Arts District near the West End region of the city, although other venues displaying art can be found throughout the city.

From contemporary American art and sculptures, to photography and visual arts, as well as more traditional paintings and fine drawings by a range of renowned international artists, the art galleries in Dallas have something to suit all tastes, old or new.

Although there are plenty of galleries to choose between in this part of Texas, several stand out in particular and deserve a special mention. The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) is one such institution and stands between the Harwood and St. Paul areas, while the Kimbell Art Museum resides within the Cultural District of nearby Fort Worth, where it is known for its Asian, European and pre-Columbian pieces.

This is one of the city's most appealing art museums with a magnificent collection of African, American, European, and Asian arts, as well as a collection from the Pacific Islands. A nice combination of contemporary, fine and decorative arts makes it a great place to spend an afternoon exploring its any treasures. The Dallas Museum of Art takes up a whole block in the Arts District and is more than a hundred years old, being founded in 1903.

Afterimage Gallery

This establishment claims to be one of the oldest art galleries in the world devoted to photography, and the Afterimage Gallery contains some stunning images on display and for sale. There is also an outstanding collection of ancient photographic equipment.

Casa Mexicana

The Latino influence in Texas from the Hispanic neighbors to the south is far reaching and the Casa Mexicana gallery specializes in Mexican folk art with a wide collection for sale, as well as for viewing just for pleasure. All of the pieces are handcrafted and made by talented untrained Mexican artists.

Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden
