Columbia and the Riverbanks Zoo
The Riverbanks Zoo is in the downtown district, on the Wildlife Boulevard, and is a good attraction for children. We were told that there are over 2000 animals here. The Aquarium Reptile Complex, the giraffes and the zebras were my favorite bits. There are also some rather beautiful botanical gardens here if you would like to explore some exotic flora.

Look out for the Confederate Monument
The Confederate Monument is just one of many monuments which are part of the South Carolina Capitol complex, although this is the grandest. It was built in 1879 and remembers those who lost their lives defending the Confederate States. It is therefore quite poignant, especially the enscription.
