Atlanta Neighborhoods, Locations and Districts

(Atlanta, Georgia - GA, USA)

Anyone who followed the 1996 Olympic Games will know that Atlanta is a high profile city with plenty to offer both visitors and residents. Atlanta's various districts are diversely different, each offering something unique and separate from the others.

The Midtown and Buckhead districts in Atlanta are perhaps the most happening areas, with the latter becoming increasingly popular as a residential area. Meanwhile, the western and eastern districts of Atlanta city are more historic and are among the best places to head in search of heritage and tradition.

Atlanta East

Just a few miles east of Atlanta's downtown district is Atlanta East, a charming area featuring quaint neighborhoods and one of America's most prestigious universities.

Downtown District

Atlanta's downtown district covers a total of four square miles and is a diverse area where 25,000 people of mixed economic and social backgrounds are resident. It is also Atlanta's chief business center, with nearly 14,000 people employed in the area. Among the 3.5 million people who visit Atlanta's downtown district every year are office workers, students, conventioneers and tourists. The city's diversity is evident also in its attractions, amenities and leisure options, which are without doubt the best in the state of Georgia.

Buckhead District

Located north of the midtown and downtown districts is Buckhead, one of the Atlanta's most prosperous and prestigious areas. The district is currently considered 'des-res' and house and land prices are rocketing up, meaning only the affluent are buying into the area. The district is comprised of five sub-areas: Buckhead, Buckhead Village, Lenox, South Buckhead and West Paces corridor, with the Buckhead Village area home to a plethora of bars, restaurants and clubs.

Midtown District

Atlanta's Midtown district is located between downtown's financial and commercial district to the south and Buckhead's shopping, nightlife and residential area to the north. The district is becoming increasingly popular as a residential area in light of its proximity to downtown Atlanta and its attractive mix of amenities and attractions. Midtown is also Atlanta's arts and entertainment center and is home to a wealth of venues including the Woodruff Arts Center, Fabulous Fox Theater, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Ballet Company.

West End District

Situated at the southwest end of Atlanta, this district is the location of some of the city's oldest properties. Here you can see Queen Anne and Victorian-style houses still standing, with Wren's Nest, the previous home of Joel Chandler Harris, being among the most famous.
