Atlanta's art scene is a thriving one, with over 60 exhibition spaces and galleries displaying pieces across the city and encompassing art in all forms and genres.

The Atlanta Art Gallery (TULA Center) is one of the city's definite highlights, featuring an extensive range of works from famous 18th- and 19th-century artists, while Hammonds House works to preserve art of African origin, catering to the city's large African-American population.

Another reliable gallery in the city is the High Museum of Art, which is to be found within the Woodruff Arts Center and alongside both the Atlanta Symphony and the Alliance Theater. For modern pieces, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) is worth a look, as is the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center.

The city's premier gallery features 18th- and 19th-century art from a range of American and international artists, including Andreas Achenbach, Oliver Clare, William Lecthworth and Pablo Picasso. The Art Center is rather tucked away and just off Peachtree Street, although is usually easy to find, standing close to both the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, and the Matre Gallery.

High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art is housed in a stylish, white building in the Midtown district, being part of the Woodruff Arts Center and close to Winn Park. Containing a fine collection of both modern and classical art, highlights at the High Museum of Art include an impressive atrium, a number of spacious art galleries and paintings by famous artists such as Picasso and Rockwell.
Open hours: Tuesday Wednesday, Friday and Saturday - 10:00 to 17:00, Thursday - 10:00 to 20:00, Sunday - 12:00 to 17:00

Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA)

Located on Peachtree Street and close to the Peachtree Circle Northeast, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia serves as both a popular educational facility and a spacious exhibition venue. In total there are more than 500 modern art works on exhibit here, created by some 200 local artists from throughout Georgia, including installation pieces and bold sculptures.

Atlanta Contemporary Art Center

The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center is far from just an exhibition space and art gallery - it is an entire facility dedicated to promoting contemporary art through education and experimentation. This complex showcases the work of local, regional, national and international artists through signature exhibits and five temporary exhibitions which run throughout the year.

Barbara Archer Gallery

The Barbara Archer Gallery was established in 1995 and showcases the works of a wide variety of highly respected self-taught and contemporary artists. Besides pieces by more than 40 gallery artists, which remain permanently on show, this venue hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

Hammonds House Museum

Established in 1988, Hammonds House Museum is a popular exhibition space dedicated to collecting, displaying and studying fine arts of the African Diaspora.
