With a rapidly increasing population close to 50,000 people, the city of San José del Cabo is situated to the north-east of Cabo San Lucas and known for its laid-back atmosphere, pleasant surroundings, shady public squares and many coastal attractions.

Also close to Cabo San Lucas are the many historic and cultural attractions within the town of Todos Santos and the picture-postcard village of La Candelaria, which is sited within the Santa Cantarina Mountains.

San José del Cabo

Despite being so understated, San José del Cabo has become a major tourist resort in its own right with many attractions. The city is just a short trip from Cabo San Lucas and contains a large hotel district (zona hotelera), with endless beachfront accommodation and condos. A cluster of shops and eateries can be found along the Boulevard Mijares, which leads to the city centre.

Todos Santos

Todos Santos is a small town with a population of around 4,000 people, successfully managing to retain a definite village feel. However, look more closely and you will discover many surprising attractions, such as stylish fashion boutiques, impressive art galleries and plenty of quality dining venues, all of which has made Todos Santos the true bohemian capital of southern Baja. Todos Santos is just over 64 km / 40 miles to the north of Cabo San Lucas and close to a number of beautiful sandy beaches and related attractions. Within the town itself are a number of historic mills (trapiches), such as the Molino de los Santana and also the Molino El Progreso, while various murals are on display at the Casa del la Cultura. The Misión de Nuestra Senora de Pilar is an important local landmark in Todos Santos and dates back to 1733.

La Candelaria

La Candelaria is a beautiful village and lies some 32 km / 20 miles to the north of Cabo San Lucas. Within La Candelaria you will discover a particularly lush landscape, with many large exotic plants and palm trees, although the views are amongst the main attractions. Not the easiest place to reach, transport and guided tours of the village can usually be arranged by the Cabo San Lucas Tourist Office on the Calle Medero, or simply by your hotel.
