Getting Around, Versailles Travel, Transport and Car Rental
(Versailles, Ile-de-France, France)
One of the most famous cities in the world,
Paris is easy to travel to by a variety of means, being home to no less than two major international airports and an excellent rail transport network. Therefore, as a suburb of Paris, the neighbouring city of Versailles is also simple to travel to, using a wide choice of transportation.
Tourists from Paris usually arrive at the Palace of Versailles by metro train and choose to purchase an all inclusive 'Forfait Loisirs' ticket', the price of which not only includes transport, but also entrance and audio-guided tours, allowing you to queue jump when you arrive - something worth considering. Alternatively, bus transport is a very popular way to travel between the Palace of Versailles and Paris, being very convenient and extremely affordable. When you arrive at the palace, you can even hire bicycles and golf buggies, although most people prefer to simply walk around the grounds.

Car Rental
Car rental is readily available at both airports in Paris and is a good way to reach Versailles and explore the Île-de-France region. Paris and Versailles are linked by the A13, making it easy to travel between the two cities. Renting a car is also a good way to reach neighbouring places of interest, such as Boulogne-Billancourt, Chantilly, Fountainebleau, Massy and Taverny.
Buses and Coaches
Bus transport is a cheap way to travel around Versailles and also to Paris. The RATP (Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens) bus number 171 regularly travels between the Place d'Armes in Versailles and the Pont de Sèvres in Paris, with the journey lasting approximately 30 minutes and running until as late as 01:00 in the early hours of the morning.
Trains
RER (Réseau Express Régional) trains tend to be faster than bus transport and therefore always popular with those without time on their hands. Several different RER lines are in operation and the 'C' line allows visitors to travel between Paris and the Versailles River Gauche train station. RER route 'C8' also transports passengers to the Versailles Chantiers station, which is just a short distance from the centre and palace itself.
