Versailles Events and Festivals

(Versailles, Ile-de-France, France)

Horse and carriage ride photo, taken in the summer seasonAlthough there are always things to do in Versailles, including walking tours of the city and palace, the neighbouring city of Paris is where some of France's biggest festivals regularly take place, so be sure to check what's on when you arrive, so that you don't miss out on any event.

When you arrive in Versailles, look out for the main weekly entertainment magazines and newspapers, such as L'Officiel des Spectacles, Pariscope and also Zurban. In early April, the Marathon International de Paris is one event worth looking out for, as is the Internationaux de France de Tennis (French Open), which is staged at the end of May until the beginning of June, at the Stade Roland Garros on the Bois de Boulogne, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

The summer in Paris and Versailles sees a range of events and celebrations, such as the Gay Pride March and Jazz Festival, both of which are held each year in June. At the beginning of July, the world-famous Tour de France ends with a race up the Champs-Elysées, followed soon after by the 'Paris Plage', where long stretches of the River Seine are transformed into sand and pebble beaches.

One of the best events to take place in Versailles and throughout France is Bastille Day, on 14th July. Wherever you are on Bastille Day you can be sure to enjoy dancing, parades and evening fireworks.
