Buses are centred around Hanley and regularly travel northwards to Burslem and Tunstall, and to the south, connecting Fenton, Longton and Stoke.

As well as bus transport, Stoke on Trent is also home to a busy railway line, which runs in a north to south direction, alongside the A500 road and the Trent and Mersey Canal, passing by the Festival Park. For short journeys between the potteries and museums, taxis are on hand and easily arranged.

Car Rental

Skirted by the M6 motorway (north to south) on its westerly outskirts (junctions 15 and 16), Stoke on Trent is also surrounded by a series of busy 'A' roads, such as the A500 (Queensway). Bringing your own set of wheels or renting a vehicle for the duration of your stay is the easiest way to make the most of a Staffordshire holiday. In the city itself, car parks are certainly plentiful, being located on Albion Street, Broad Street, Clough Street, Huntbach Street, Moorland Road, Potteries Way, Quandrant Road and Woodbank Street. Those planning to travel to Alton Towers by car will need to drive in an easterly direction, taking the B5047 / Town Road, joining the A50 / Potteries Way and the A5008 / Bucknall New Road, and simply follow the signposts, heading towards Farley.

Buses and Coaches

Public transport in Stoke on Trent really just comes in the form of local buses. Operated by the Potteries Motor Traction, a subsidiary of First Group, these buses travel between all of the six towns that combine to make up this city, and further afield, to destinations such as Stafford (one hour and 15 minutes). The main bus station is located in Hanley, off Lichfield Street, while a further station is to be found on Moulton Road in Longton, close to the Longton Town Hall. Each day, several National Express coaches travel to and from London, which is around 257 km / 160 miles away, in just under four hours.

Trains

Standing on the West Coast Main Line (Stafford to Manchester), the Stoke on Trent railway station is located in the town of Stoke, on Station Road, and provides frequent services to destinations throughout Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Managed by Virgin Trains, the station comprises three platforms and is accessed from Winton Square. Local Stoke trains travel between Alsager, Blythe Bridge, Cheadle Hulme, Congleton, Crewe, Derby, Kidsgrove, Lichfield, Longport, Macclesfield, Stafford, Stone, Tutbury, Uttoxeter and Wolverhampton. Express train transport is also available at Stoke on Trent, with these fast trains travelling to London in just one hour and 45 minutes, and also between the cities and towns of Birmingham, Bournemouth, Coventry, Manchester, Oxford, Reading and Stockport.
