Getting Around, Ayia Napa Travel, Transport and Car Rental

(Ayia Napa, Famagusta, Cyprus)

Photo of Larnaca International Airport (LCA)There are plenty of ways to explore both Ayia Napa and the surrounding region, with bus transport providing a cheap way to travel outside of this resort. However, since buses are not always reliable or particularly frequent, Ayia Napa holiday makers often choose to travel around at their own pace, hiring a car, open-top 4WD, scooter or moped during their vacation.

If you prefer not to drive, then taxi transport is on hand in Ayia Napa and is ideal for travelling between places of interest within Cape Greco and the Paralimni region. Those feeling a little more energetic may like to consider hiring a bicycle, since much of the area is quite flat and there are some excellent cycle trails around the Kokkinochoria villages and leading to Cape Greco.

Car Rental

If you are planning to get out and about during your time in Cyprus, and travel to outlying destinations and attractions, then you really should consider renting either a car or scooter. This will allow you to get around at your own pace and timetable. Car rental is available both at Larnaca Airport and also within Ayia Napa and nearby Protaras, with the smaller, local Cypriot companies tending to give the best value. However, in general, car hire rates are quite reasonable, especially when you compare the prices to other equally popular Mediterranean tourist destinations. The summer months in Cyprus are always hot, so do be sure that your vehicle comes with air conditioning as standard.

Local historic bus, transporting visitors around the resort

Buses and Coaches

Bus transport here travels between many nearby towns, cities and resorts, although not actually around Ayia Napa itself. There are regular buses running to and from Larnaca, Nicosia, Paralimni and Protaras, with more frequent departures during the summer season. All of these buses stop between the harbourfront and the Plateia Seferi ('the Square').

Taxi rank photo

Taxis

Most taxis travelling to and from Larnaca Airport pick up and drop off at the central taxi rank, on the Plateia Seferi.

Since there are no buses travelling around Ayia Napa, taxis are popular with holiday makers who simply wish to travel just a short distance, hopping between attractions, beaches and nightspots.
