Marrakech Hotels and Accommodation

(Marrakech, Morocco)

Photo of central lodgingThe quality of the hotels found within Marrakech varies greatly and range from the most basic lodging imaginable, to luxury accommodation, suitable for royalty. There is such a huge choice of hotels in Marrakech, that choosing where to stay can be a little confusing. However, this is one of the most expensive cities in the country, so it is likely that you will have to pay more for your accommodation here than elsewhere in Morocco.

However, it can be quite easy to narrow down your choices, by simply choosing between hotels on peaceful back streets of 'medinas' (Arab quarters), or within the most lively Ville Nouvelle area, where plenty of chain hotels reside. Tourists wishing to experience as much of Marrakech as possible often choose to stay in for a night or two in one of the city's traditional 'riads', where accommodation comes in the form of historic guesthouses with just a few rooms, which are usually set around a pretty courtyard or garden.

Where to Stay

For the best in budget lodging, look for hotels lying to the south of the Djemaa El Fna quarter, which often feature very pleasant views.

The best accommodation here does fill up quickly, although some may even let you sleep on their roof terraces if they are fully booked. particularly popular in this part of Marrakech is the Hotel Gallia on the quiet back street of the Rue de la Recette, and the Jnane Mogador on the Derb Sidi Bouloukat, which is a very attractive riad, dating from the 19th century.

At the top-end of the lodging scales, hotels don't get much better than the Riad Edward on the Derb Marestane and the Riad Farnatchi on the Derb el-Farnatchi, both of which offer luxury suites and enviable views. Also recommended in Marrakech are the hotels surrounding the scenic Ourike Valley and the Palmeraie area, which enjoy a peaceful and tranquil setting.
