Known for its lavish golf resorts, lush nature preserves and white sandy beaches, Hilton Head is a popular island resort and understandably offers a wide selection of hotels and accommodation. Many of the most popular and desirable hotels in Hilton Head feature superb coastal, ocean and harbor views, with balconies and even large floor-to-ceiling windows on occasion.

Where to stay on Hilton Head Island depends upon a number of factors, namely your budget and sightseeing intentions. If you are looking for beach lodging or a scenic golfing resort on the island, then your choice of accommodation will differ. The best beaches on Hilton Head Island can be found on the south side, together with excellent shopping and top restaurants, while the South Carolina Yacht Club is situated on the north side. Mid-Island is home to a number of upscale marinas and hotels, together with some particularly impressive golf courses.

Further hotels in the Hilton Head area reside within a number of neighboring towns and cities, such as Beaufort (35 miles / 56 km), Bluffton (9 miles / 14 km), Brighton Beach (9 miles / 14 km), Cherry Point Landing (16 miles / 26 km), Hardeeville (22 miles / 35 km), Port Royal (31 miles / 50 km) and Ridgeland (33 miles / 53 km). Some 34 miles / 55 km away and to the southwest is a wealth of accommodation within the city of Savannah, which lies just across the South Carolina border and within the neighboring state of Georgia.

Budget hotels in Hilton Head are not in great supply, and what is available tends to be next to the island, such as the Comfort Suites and Holiday Inn at Beaufort, the Super 8 Motel at Port Royal, and the Candlewood Suites at Bluffton, all of which offer two-star lodging at affordable prices. On Hilton Head Island itself, some of the cheapest hotels include the highly recommended Red Roof Inn on the Regency Parkway, which lies near to the southerly Long Cove Plantation. Also very much of note are both the Quality Inn on Museum Street and the Days Inn on the Marina Side Drive.

Mid-range hotels in Hilton Head can be found around Dillon Road, the Greenwood Drive, the Harborside Lane, the North Forest Beach Drive and Park Lane, amongst other stretches. On Dillon Road, the highly recommended three-star Hampton Inn lies on the northern side of the island and close to the Folly Field Public Beach, the Hilton Head Island Airport (HHH) and the Palmetto Highlands Triangle Square Shopping Center. Next to the southeasterly coast and along Ocean Lane, the Barrington Arms Hotel Resort by ResortQuest offers especially popular accommodation and is connected to the actual beachfront by a boardwalk. Golfers will favor the Fazio Villas by ResortQuest in Palmetto Dunes, where no less than three golf courses are nearby.

There is a large and very tempting selection of luxury hotels to be found on Hilton Head, with four-star accommodation and resorts being surprisingly plentiful, and often quite affordable. Especially notable is the Seacrest Hotel by ResortQuest, which stands on the North Forest Beach Drive and comes with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Considerably cheaper and yet still offering four-star lodging is the well-placed Crowne Plaza Resort on Shipyard Drive, where literally miles of soft white sand is just a matter of meters away.
