Formerly known as the Self Family Arts Center, the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is an amazing facility dedicated to the exhibition of both visual and performing arts. The quality of the galleries and programs here are surprising considering Hilton Head's low-key reputation, and you will be well rewarded by taking the time to view the collections of paintings or by taking in a musical, comedy, drama, concert or puppet show.

Located at the base of the bridge at Hilton Head's North End, the Coastal Discovery Museum is a great place to get acquainted with the island's history and biodiversity. A combination of indoor and outdoor exhibits lets visitors get up close to nature in comfort. In particular, the Butterfly Garden has a wide variety of native flora in addition to dozens of varieties of these beautiful winged insects. The museum conducts a number of guided tours around island, visiting the most important natural sites and historic attractions. Very well received are the Turtle Talk and Walk tours held from May to October, which include fantastic evening beach explorations.
