Asheville has fast air and road connections to major East Coast and Midwest cities, which you can easily travel to from destinations across the United States and abroad.

There is no rail service to Asheville, although Greyhound coach transport services the Asheville area directly.

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) / Arriving by Air

Asheville Regional Airport provides direct services to and from Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte in North Carolina, as well as to and from Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Newark, Orlando, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Continental, Delta, Northwest and US Airways all offer flights to and from Asheville AVL.


The airport is conveniently located 15 miles / 24 km south of Asheville on I-26 and there are plenty of shuttles, limousine transport and taxis available, providing an inexpensive way to travel into central Asheville. You can also use airports in Greenville or Charlotte and drive the remaining journey to Asheville.

Car Rental

Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz are all authorized to operate at Asheville Regional Airport, while National / Alamo has a travel office in Asheville itself. Car rental transport is extremely popular in Asheville as the town is within easy reach of the best sections of Blue Ridge Parkway, America's most scenic drive. In peak seasons and weekends, be sure to pre-book your Asheville rental car well in advance, to make sure that you are able to get the make and model of vehicle that you prefer.

Buses and Coaches

Greyhound has regular coach services linking Asheville with other regional cities and towns. The Asheville Transit Authority operates local buses which travel along several convenient routes throughout the area. Local bus transport and numerous shuttles link the town with Asheville Regional Airport.

Trains

There is no direct rail link to Asheville. Travelers wishing to reach the town of Asheville by rail transport should take an Amtrak service to Greenville or Spartanburg, in South Carolina, and travel the rest of the way to Asheville by car.

Taxis

There are dozens of taxi providers, as well as several limousine travel companies, operating in Asheville and from Asheville Regional Airport, meaning that you will never be waiting long in lines. At Asheville Airport, taxis await each arrival just outside the terminal, while in the town you can flag down taxis or find one at the many designated taxi stands around Asheville.
