Asheville Golf Courses and Clubs

There are several good golf courses distributed around the city of Asheville. One of the most popular and historic is the Buncombe County Municipal Golf Course, which resides on the southeasterly outskirts of the city, close to the River Ridge Shopping Center and the Redwood Forest area.

The Country Club of Asheville is also of note and lies to the north, just past Beaver Lake and next to the Lake View Park. Also in this direction, although somewhat closer to the city center, is the Grove Park Country Club, which is just a short distance east of the University of North Carolina campus. Elsewhere, both the Great Smokies Holiday Inn Sun Spree Resort and the Biltmore Forest Country Club may also appeal.

The Biltmore Forest Country Club is a private, 18-hole course, featuring undulating landscape and water hazards on a few holes. Dating back to 1925 it is one of the area's oldest courses. Golfing fees are fairly expensive.

The Buncombe County Municipal Golf Course is an 18-hole public course, known for its reasonably priced golfing fees. Featuring a fairly flat terrain, there are no water hazards on the course and the greens are fairly small. Dating back to 1927, the Biltmore Forest Country Club certainly ranks amongst the area's oldest.

The Great Smokies Holiday Inn Sun Spree Resort has a popular 18-hole golf course, with fairly inexpensive green fees. This delightful course is surrounded by the Great Smoky and the Blue Ridge Mountains and was built in 1976.

The Grove Park Inn Resort has an impressive, scenic course with undulating greens, narrow fairways, bunkers and water hazards on some holes. Offering golf clinics and an excellent pro shop, this course dates back to 1899, making it one of the area's oldest. Golfing fees here are considered expensive.
