However, those museums present on Molokai are of a good quality and packed with interest, offering an insight into the local Hawaiian history, heritage, lifestyle and traditions.

One such museums which stands out is the RW Meyer Sugar Mill. Situated alongside the Molokai Museum and Cultural Centre, the RW Meyer Sugar Mill now enjoys a place on Hawaii's prestigious National Register of Historic Places.


Mauna Loa Museum and Cultural Park

The Mauna Loa Museum and Cultural Park is a relatively recent addition to the town of Maunaloa and has already become a real highlight. Various displays offer an insight into the town's history and rich culture, while the seasonal events and Yuletide festivities add extra interest. The Cultural Park provides an important recreational space and comprises plenty of flower beds, seating and mature trees, together with some beautiful stone cottages.

Molokai Museum and Cultural Centre

Located within Kaunakakai and the island's Kualapuu area, the Molokai Museum and Cultural Centre is sited alongside the RW Meyer Sugar Mill, and guided tours usually take in both of these attractions. Many items from yesteryear can be found here and if you are in the area, this is well worth exploring at your leisure.

RW Meyer Sugar Mill

This historical mill is a very interesting place to visit and has been completely restored, and is now in full working order, being complete with all kinds of related machinery, some of which is powered by steam, or even mules. The island's commercial past is very much explored at the RW Meyer Sugar Mill and visitors will be able to learn how this actual mill once produced huge quantities of sugar during the 19th century. After your visit, the onsite gift shop is available, should you wish to purchase a postcard, guide book or souvenirs.
