Molokai Airport (MKK) Information

(Molokai, Hawaii - HI, USA)

Molokai Airport is the primary air facility serving the quiet Hawaiian island of Molokai. It is located 6 miles / 10 km north-west of Kaunakakai, the largest town on the island. The airport handles around 50,000 flights annually, all of which are inter-island flights.

As one of the least-developed islands in Hawaii, Molokai is largely a local's island. Tourism takes a backseat to the everyday life of the islanders, in sharp contrast to tourism in Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. Pacific Wings, Mokulele Airlines and Island Air are the three main carriers operating inter-island flights to Honolulu, Kahului, Kalaupapa, Kapalua and also Lanai.

The terminal is perhaps one of the world's most modest, with a single snack bar and a flower shop for travelers. Taxis and car hire are the only modes of transport from the airport to destinations around Molokai. Due to the absence of public transport, a car is the ideal way to get around this unique Hawaiian island.

Address: Keonelele Avenue 465 / Mauna Loa Highway 460, Hoolehua, Hawaii HI, 96729 USA
Tel: +1 808 567 9660
Located nearby the small towns of both Kualapuu and Hoolehua, Molokai Airport is the only convenient way to reach the proud Hawaiian island of the same name. Although there are daily flights to Honolulu and several other airports in the island chain, most of the passengers using this air hub are simply locals who live on Molokai. The terminal is purely functional, with little in the way of amenities for passengers.

Facilities:

Cars

The only car hire firm operating at Molokai's airport is Alamo. The counter of this supplier, which has a decent stock of basic cars and SUVs suitable for island driving, is situated right outside of the Baggage Claim area. Since there is no public transport on the island, a rental car is the only viable way to get around and visit attractions such as Kalawao Bay, Kepuhi Bay, Moomomi Bay and the Kalaupapa National Historical Park. During peak travel seasons or holidays, car rentals often sell out, so it is essential to make a booking in advance.

Taxis

Two taxi firms operate at Molokai Airport, Midnite Taxi and Hele Mai Taxi. Both outfits offer the same fixed rates to the principal destinations on the island, meaning that there is no need to haggle over prices. There are always a couple of taxis waiting for each flight, but you may have to wait for one to return if there is a queue.
