The resort of Puerto Vallarta is always busy, although the demand for accommodation is particularly great during the high season, between December and April. At this time of the year, hotels in Puerto Vallarta raise their prices, especially around the Semana Santa festivals at the beginning of April.

Both Christmas and the New Year are also popular times to visit Puerto Vallarta are so if you are planning to stay here towards the end of December, do be sure to book well ahead. Hotel rates outside of these times tend to be considerably cheaper and it may even be possible to negotiate a more favourable lodging rate. Where to Stay

Much of the cheapest accommodation in Puerto Vallarta is to be found on the southern side of the Cuale River, especially around the Madero area. For those staying in Puerto Vallarta on a particularly tight budget, camping is available nearby at Tacho's Trailer Park on the Camino Nuevo al Pitillal.

Puerto Vallarta's mid-range accommodation tends to be a big step up from budget hotels in terms of price. However, they are generally much more comfortable, with better facilities and surroundings.

The Hotel Zone is where many visitors head to look for accommodation, being based around the Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio. This is a lively part of Puerto Vallarta and hotels here are close to a range of entertainment.
