At this time of the year, hotels in Puerto Vallarta raise their prices, especially around the Semana Santa festivals at the beginning of April.

Both Christmas and the New Year are also popular times to visit Puerto Vallarta are so if you are planning to stay here towards the end of December, do be sure to book well ahead. Hotel rates outside of these times tend to be considerably cheaper and it may even be possible to negotiate a more favourable lodging rate. All hotels in Puerto Vallarta feature a private bath and fan, although if you require air conditioning you should expect to pay a little extra.

Where to Stay

Much of the cheapest accommodation in Puerto Vallarta is to be found on the southern side of the Cuale River, especially around the Madero area. For those staying in Puerto Vallarta on a particularly tight budget, camping is available nearby at Tacho's Trailer Park on the Camino Nuevo al Pitillal.

Puerto Vallarta's mid-range accommodation tends to be a big step up from budget hotels in terms of price. However, they are generally much more comfortable, with better facilities and surroundings.

For families in Puerto Vallarta, beachfront resort-style hotels are hard to beat, offering views across Banderas Bay.

This type of accommodation also features easy access to a number of beaches, such as the Playa de los Meurtos and the Playa Olas Altas, and the coastal Malecón boardwalk.
