The city of Calgary boasts an international airport, which is well served by public transport, offering a number a travel options. Calgary International Airport is intercepted by two major highways, the Trans-Canadian highway and the Deerfoot Trail, which links directly with Edmonton.

Several Greyhound buses travel to Calgary from Vancouver and Edmonton, and scenic trains travel along the route between Vancouver and Calgary.

Calgary International Airport is situated northeast of the city and is the air transport gateway to Calgary and the ski regions of Banff and Lake Louise. Many major airlines fly direct to Calgary from cities throughout North America including Air Canada, Delta, American Airlines, United, Continental and Northwest. Options for transport to downtown Calgary and hotels include taking the Airporter bus, taxis and limousines. There is also an Air Canada shuttle service which provides travel to and from Edmonton.

Car Rental

There are several major car rental transport companies represented at Calgary Airport including Avis, Budget and Hertz. Travel into central Calgary is made easy by the proximity of both Highway 2 (Deerfoot Trail south) and Highway 1 west (Trans-Canada Highway). These same routes provide access to the US border from the south and from Vancouver in the west.

Buses, Coaches and Light Rail

Greyhound buses travel to Calgary from most Canadian destinations, as well as from many American cities. Regular bus transport also serves nearby Banff and Edmonton. The Greyhound depot is located on Greyhound way to the west of Calgary's downtown district. For city transport, the Calgary Transit System operates a light-rail system (the C-Train) and buses. Buses and trains use the same tickets and the trains are free between 10th Street and City Hall in downtown Calgary.

Trains

Private trains travel to Calgary, with the nearest VIA Rail station located in Edmonton to the north. The private rail company which runs scenic trips from Vancouver to Calgary and back is called Great Rocky Mountaineer Railtours and operates the Rocky Mountaineer service. This transport takes two days from either direct and stops overnight in beautiful Kamloops.

Taxis

There are three main taxi companies in Calgary that travel the streets and can be hailed at any time of the day. These are Checker Cabs, Red Top Cabs and Yellow Cabs, and fares are metered and reasonable. Taxi travel is also available from Calgary Airport.
