Calgary's climate sees extremes in temperature from summer to winter, owing to the fact that the Pacific Ocean is located hundreds of miles away to the west. Differences in precipitation are also fairly high, with the summer months seeing the most rainy weather.
Winter
As with other Canadian cities that are situated away from the coastline, Calgary sees extremely cold weather and temperatures in the winter months of December, January and February, with typical Calgary temperatures in January being around 0°C / 32°F and slightly lower temperatures of -2°C / 29°F in December and February. The Plus 15 system - a collection of raised and heated walkways throughout the city of Calgary - protects people form the cold weather in the winter months. Rainfall is lowest during Calgary's winter season, with February seeing the least amount of rain at around 3 cm / 1.2 inches.
Spring
Temperatures in Calgary climb steeply in March, with highs of up to 18°C / 64°F in late May and the weather during this time of the year in Calgary is very pleasant. The temperatures are not too harsh and the rainfall is not so high.
Summer
Temperatures peak in July and August to about 25°C / 77°F, making this the best time of year for visiting Calgary. Temperatures can hit lows of 12°C / 54°F and June sees the highest precipitation levels of the year in Calgary, with about 27 cm / 10.5 inches of rain. However, this is a low level of rain compared to other world cities.
Autumn / Fall
The climate in Calgary during the autumn sees sharp drops in temperature from September to November, dipping to lows of -8°C / 18°F in November, with a very low precipitation level.
