Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) Information

(Nassau / Paradise Island, New Providence, Bahamas)

Photo showing Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) The Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport (often referred to as the Bahamas Nassau International Airport) is the main gateway to the Bahamas archipelago. It resides in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas and New Providence Island. Bahamasair, the national flag carrier, is based here, while the hub is also served by many overseas carriers including British Airways and Continental Airlines.

The airport lies on the western side of New Providence Island, not far from the main beach resorts of Paradise Island, where it has two terminals and two runways. Most flights arrive here from the nearby US mainland (American Airlines) and from Canada (Air Canada), while British Airways has a direct flight from London. The site is reasonably well facilitated, although ground transportation is somewhat lacking.

The Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport played an important role during WWII, when it was originally known as the Windsor Field. Its passenger throughput is presently three million and its main runway is able to accommodate A380 aircraft. There is an onsite observation deck, known as the Lookout There.

While public buses don't actually serve the airport, there are shuttle services provided by the main hotels. If you have one of these hotels booked, your airport transfers will invariably be included. Of note, it is about 30 minutes by bus to Paradise Island.

Taxis and Limos

Taxis are available to destinations on both New Providence and Paradise islands. Fixed-fare taxis gather outside Arrivals, while cheaper metered taxis depart from the road outside the airport grounds. A couple of limousine firms are based here, namely Rich and Famous, and A Touch of Class, providing a more upmarket way to travel into Nassau and other destinations around the islands.
