Situated right next door to the Millennium Stadium, the Cardiff Arms Park functions as a leading rugby union stadium, although other sporting events are sometimes staged here. In the past, these have included the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, baseball, bowling, boxing matches, cricket and even tennis.

The River Taff runs straight through the city centre and is a particularly scenic spot for walking and cycling in Cardiff, with various riverside public houses located along the way, suiting those in need of a pint and a ploughman's.

Football

Cardiff City Football Club dates back to the late 19th century and plays regular football matches at Ninian Park. Football is one of the most popular spectator sports in the city and Ninian Park resides within the Leckwith area, being within easy reach of the city centre by wither car, bus or train.

Founded most than 100 years ago, the impressive Millennium Stadium is home to the Cardiff Rugby Football Club. After staging the Rugby World Cup in 1999, the stadium regularly hosts many important rugby matches, including the rugby Six Nations Championships. Neighbouring Cardiff Arms Park is an important rugby union stadium and was completed in 1969, being able to accommodate more than 12,000 spectators.

Glamorgan County Cricket Club

Cricket is becoming an increasingly popular spectator sport in this part of Wales and the Glamorgan County Cricket Club play regular cricket matches at Sophia Gardens, in the Pontcanna district. The cricket season runs from April to September.

Cardiff World Rally

Cardiff hosts the Wales Rally GB, the final round of the World Rally Championship, each autumn, attracting many of the world's top rally drivers. The World Rally Championship is the fasting growing motor sport in the world, second only in important to Formula 1 Grand Prix racing.

The city has become an important location for athletics and the Cardiff Athletics Stadium can be found in the Leckwith area. With an 400-metre track, a football pitch and excellent sporting facilities, the Athletics Stadium has seating for more than 5,000 spectators, a fitness centre and all-weather pitches.

Taff Cycle Trail

Covering more than 80 km / 50 miles, the Taff Cycle Trail is a particularly scenic cycle trail that runs from Cardiff Bay to the nearby town of Brecon. With many spectacular views along the way, highlights include trails right alongside the River Taff and the waterfront.

The Cardiff Ski Centre has good facilities for both dry-skiing and snowboarding in the city. Situated in the Fairwater area, the Ski Centre features ski instructors, ski equipment hire and a café area.
