One of Lanzarote's most famous local artists, César Manrique (1919 - 1992) was responsible for much of the island's appearance, designing a number of notable buildings, gardens and a breathtaking wind sculpture. His old studio has now become a popular exhibition space, with many outstanding works.

Another of Lanzarote's noteworthy art facilities is the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is located in Arrecife and housed in the attractive Castle of San José.
