Turku Hotels and Accommodation

(Turku, Finland Proper, Finland)

Photo of waterfront lodgingThe hotels in Turku tend to be considerably cheaper than the various accommodation options offered in nearby Helsinki, offering far better value for money. The majority of the hotels in Turku provide a good standard of lodging and reduce their prices at the weekend, when the businessmen commuting to Helsinki leave the city.

Those on an especially tight budget may like to consider staying at one of the city's hostels, such as the Hostel Turku, which lies near to the actual city centre and next to the banks of the River Aura. Also conveniently located is the Interpoint Hostel, a popular alternative to mainstream hotels, providing extremely inexpensive accommodation next to Kupittaa Train Station, along the Vähä Hämeenkatu.

Where to Stay

A number of cheap hotels and guesthouses are centred around the University of Turku, which has grown in size to become Finland's second-biggest university and is home to around 20,000 students.

Close by, the Turku Unihostel is particularly cheap for lodging and is generally used by those looking to stay longer than just a week or two.

More typical accommodation comes in the form of mid-range hotels, with both the Holiday Inn and Sokos being firm favourites for many and standing extremely close to the harbourfront itself, around the Eerikinkatu and Kristinegatan, off the Universitetsgatan and the Yliopistonkatu.

Close by, on the Matkustajasatama and off the Hämeenaktu, the Best Western Hotel Seaport offers good-value accommodation in a central location, well connected by public transport. To the far west of central Turku and next to the waterfront, the Naantali Spa Hotel can be found on the Matkailijantie and is especially popular, being located next to the shopping promenade.
