The Magnificent Turku Castle
This has got to be one of the largest of all the historic castles in Finland and is easy to spot. It stands right next to the River Aurajoki and building work started in 1280 or thereabouts. In the 17th century the castle became the home of the general governor of Finland and soon after became a prison and a warehouse. It is open all through the year, but stays open much later between April and September.

About the Forum Marinum (Sea Centre)
This museum is located in a former granary building and is close to the Turku Castle, although it used to be on the Vartiovuori Hill. There is a located of information inside relating to Finnish sea history and the like, including the development of its fleets and various maritime customs. It is closed on Mondays.
