Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) / Arriving by Air

Until April 2008 Sheffield had its own small air facility, the Sheffield City Airport and Heliport (SZD). However, the airport was not sustainable as it was making losses of around £400,000 a year resulting in it being closed and the land sold for redevelopment into the Blue Skies Business Park.

The city is now served by the Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield (DSA), an international facility situated 29 km / 18 miles to the east, that has an annual throughput of approxiamately 820,000 passengers.

Car Rental

Sheffield enjoys a fairly central setting in England and is easy to travel to from all nearby cities and towns, due to its nearby motorways and main 'A' roads, which include the M1, M18, M62 and also the A1. The city itself is surprisingly car friendly and although it is busy during the usual rush hours, Sheffield is particularly easy to drive around, with most routes and attractions being clearly signposted. In total, the city is home to around 40 different central car parks, together with more than 1,600 on-street spaces, where pay and display machines are never far away.

Buses and Coaches

Known as the Interchange, the city's bus station lies to the east of the city centre and just a short distance to the north of the railway station. There are many frequent buses, which travel around the city, while National Express provides affordable transport to other locations, such as London (four hours), Leeds (one and a half hours), and many parts of the Peak District.

Trains

The National Rail service operates around Sheffield and provides transport to and from London St. Pancras (two and a half hours), via either Nottingham or Derby. Trains also travel on an hourly basis to Leeds (30 minutes), Manchester (one hour) and York (one hour and 20 minutes).

Supertrams

The city's modern Supertram system connects the city centre with five nearby park and ride locations and is extremely inexpensive to use. Supertram transport also links the train station, many of Sheffield's most prominent shopping districts, and the city's two university campuses, the main sports venues and a number of other notable places of interest. Tickets can be purchased onboard and a 'Dayrider' ticket offers exceptional value, allowing unlimited travel all through the day
