A number of these feature spectacular contemporary architecture, such as the Millennium Galleries at Arundel Gate, and also Sheffield Yorkshire Artspace.

Offering a fairly diverse collection of paintings and sculptures, both modern and more traditional pieces are on display around the city, with art works by many world-famous artists, known for their style and use of colour.



Millennium Galleries

Located in the very heart of central Sheffield, the Millennium Galleries is a major arts venue and home to four separate galleries. Located alongside the Winter Garden, highlights at this gallery space include many exhibitions with traditional and historic paintings by famous artists on loan from national galleries, and also a Learning Centre, where a series of workshops and lectures take place over the year.
Open hours: Monday to Saturday - 10:00 to 17:00, Sunday - 11:00 to 17:00

BLOC Space

Actively promoting the works of local, up-and-coming artists from the Sheffield and Yorkshire area, the BLOC Space offers a creative and appealing space. Most exhibitions last around three weeks, with 12 displays held over the course of the year.
Open hours: Thursday to Sunday - 12:00 to 18:00, open at other times according to exhibition

Graves Art Gallery

The Graves Art Gallery can be found directly above Sheffield's Central Library building and contains an especially important and inspiring collection of modern art from the last two centuries. Of particular interest are a number of pieces by none other than Cezanne and Picasso, amongst other acclaimed artists known for their contemporary style.

Site Gallery

This international centre for modern art and the moving image is well worth a visit. The site gallery concentrates on a range of contemporary mediums, such as digital pieces, videos, photography and other contemporary media styles. There is also a fairly organised calendar of events, which includes talks by artists, conferences and art symposiums.

Yorkshire Artspace

A stunning contemporary building which has become a prominent landmark in its own right, Sheffield's Yorkshire Artspace is located along Brown Street, close to the Site Gallery. This popular gallery is a purpose-built studio and features a programme of changing exhibitions, with many arts and crafts on display, including many local works. Exhibitions are usually displayed in the centre's reception area.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is located in the spreading grounds of the Bretton Hall estate, which covers approximately 500 acres / 200 hectares in nearby Wakefield. This parkland contains an impressive collection of international sculptures, of various sizes. With a number of permanent pieces by famous artists, such as Henry Moore, many of the sculptures are changed on a regular basis. There are also several indoor gallery spaces at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, together with a coffee shop and craft outlet.
