Tourism and Tourist Information

Sheffield's tourist bureau is located off Norfolk Street and close to the Crucible Theatre. You will find a particularly good selection of leaflets here, about the city and surrounding area, including a comprehensive 'visitor and accommodation guide'.

The staff are always extremely helpful and on hand to assist with helping you plan your days and any excursions. Staff are also available to assist with both finding and booking accommodation if you have not yet found a hotel. An 'information point' is also available in the Winter Garden.

Smoking

Smoking in many public places around Sheffield, as with the whole of England, has never been more frowned upon. Even pubs and restaurants in the city are now smoke-free zones, following the English anti-smoking law of July 2007. In general, it is usually very clear where you are and are not allowed to smoke, as 'no smoking' signs are hard to miss and the absence of an ashtray is always a giveaway.

Tipping

Tipping has become the norm is most restaurants around Sheffield, so much so that many automatically choose to add service charges to the bill, often still expecting a small tip. As long as you are happy with the food and service, it is usual to leave just a few pounds, depending on the overall price of the meal. A tip of five percent of the overall bill, or less, is quite acceptable in all cases, which can be left on the table as you leave or added to your credit card during payment.
