Wincobank Hill
Anyone passing Sheffield on the M1 should take time out to pull off the motorway at J34 North and make the 3 minute drive to the top of Jenkin Road and Wincobank Hill. By stopping at the brow of the hill and walking for 5 minutes up the brick track by the Pillar you will find the remains of one of the few Iron Age Forts within a city boundary, spectacular views across the Don Valley and the city of Sheffield. A wonderful place for a picnic and walk in an ancient woodland.

Shopping in Sheffield and around the Fargate
The shopping in the city centre is particularly good around the pedestrianised Fargate, having improved greatly in recent years after the arrival of the Meadowhall shopping complex. There have been some big department stores open here recently, and twice a year, the European Market is a huge event here. The High Street and Chapel Walk are nearby, along with the bus station and the city hall.

Famous Crucible Theatre
The Crucible Theatre is located off the Arundel Gate and regularly stages some touring plays from the West End in London. It is also where the World Snooker Championships take place and you can come here are use the bar and restaurant, even if you not seeing a play or coming to an event.

Going to Matlock
Matlock is close to Sheffield and many people come to this town each year. The main street has lots of good shops and visitors may enjoy the Matlock Bath Aquarium. This used to be a Victorian bathing place, fed by natural springs. The main swimming pool is now used as a big pond for koi carp and mirror carp, who seem to love their home and are massive.
