Lake District Hotels and Accommodation

(Lake District, Cumbria, England, UK)

Photo of waterfront lodgingThe Lake District covers a vast area, with accommodation being found within many different towns and villages, and coming in the form of local hotels, small guesthouses and family run B&Bs.

Very much something of a playground for hikers and lovers of the 'great outdoors', the Lake District lends itself to camping, and backpackers not looking for hotels will be pleased to find that there are a multitude of camping sites to choose from, often with basic facilities and located in the fields of local farmers. With around a quarter of the entire Lake District now owned by the National Trust, this organisation does offer a small selection of accommodation, in the form of holiday cottages available for rental.

Where to Stay

The main bases for lodging and accommodation within the Lake District tends to be around Keswick (north), and also within the areas of Bowness and Lake Windermere (south). B&Bs are also to be found within the quieter town of Ambleside, and the village of Coniston, amongst other destinations within Cumbria.

For cheap accommodation in the Windermere and Bowness area, consider the Park Cliffe Campsite on Birks Road, the Lake District Backpackers Lodge on the High Street, and the Windermere YHA Hostel on Bridge Lane at Troutbeck Bridge, where the valley views are superb.

Also worth considering are the accommodation options, small hotels and camping sites within Borrowdale, Buttermere, Glenridding, Hardknott, Hawkshead, Langdale, Patterdale and Wasdale, amongst other locations.
