Once you actually arrive in Hartlepool, you will find that it is relatively simple to travel around on foot, or if you are in a hurry, regular buses travel between the end of the Headland and the town centre, next to the marina.

The closest sizeable airport to Hartlepool is Newcastle Airport (NLC), which lies just over 64 km / 40 miles to the north-west and transports in excess of five million passengers each year. Slightly nearer, although considerably smaller, is the Durham Tees Valley Airport (MME), while at 113 km / 70 miles to the south, Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBA) also deserves a mention.

Car Rental

Located around 23 km / 14 miles to the east of the A1(M) and close to a number of further 'A' roads, the town of Hartlepool is certainly easy to reach by car. If you are planning to take day trips northwards, then you can simply travel along the A19 to reach seaside destinations such as Seaham, before it joins the A1018 and heads towards Sunderland, South Shields and Whitley Bay. The A19 also heads southwards, linking Wolviston, Billingham and Middlesborough.

In Hartlepool, plenty of town centre car parks are available, with short stays located on Gainford Street, Roker Street, Walden Street and West Side, and long stays on Albert Street and Eden Street.

Trains

Many tourists staying in Hartlepool enjoy climbing onboard the coastal train and enjoying the sumptuous views as they travel along the very scenic Durham Coast Line. The town's train station is located in the centre and close to the marina, and sees regular services to Newcastle upon Tyne (north), Middlesborough (south) and York (south), as well as direct trains to and from London.

Buses and Coaches

The public bus transport services in Hartlepool are operated by the Stagecoach Group and provide an easy and inexpensive way to travel all around the town, and to the outlying destinations of Billingham, Middlesborough and Stockton on Tees. Additional buses are available and run by both Go North East and Arriva. These services connect Durham, Newcastle upon Tyne, Peterlee and Sunderland.
