Located in the centre of Hartlepool, the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre dates back to the late 1960s, when it was built on the site of a former housing estate in a successful effort to revitalise an area that had been heavily bombed during the Second World War.

Although the architecture of Hartlepool's Middleton Grange Shopping Centre is still very much sixties in character, the interior was greatly modernised in 1993 and currently houses around 140 different shops and outlets, spread over two floors. Middleton Grange is now actually the North East's third-biggest town centre shopping complex and offers a traditional market hall, a large car park and many popular High Street shops, such as Argos, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Marks & Spencer, Peacocks, Primark and Wilkinson, amongst others.

The Middleton Grange is open seven days a week as follows:
Monday to Saturday - 09:00 to 17:30
Sunday - 10:30 to 16:30

Where to Shop

Further shopping opportunities are spread around the Hartlepool Marina and these come in the form of three individual retail parks, known as Anchor, Highlight and High Point. All of these thriving retail parks are within easy reach of each other and satisfy the need for out-of-town stores, being home to the likes of Boots the Chemist, Matalan, Next and also a large branch of Staples.

For supermarket shopping in Hartlepool there is plenty of choice. An Asda store lies alongside the marina, while a Tesco supermarket is sited close to the town centre, both of which now open 24-hours a day.

Many shoppers in Hartlepool enjoy more traditional shopping, favouring the banter and bargains to be found within the town's markets. An outdoor market takes place in the town centre each Wednesday and Thursday, on the Market Square and right next to the War Memorial, selling local produce, clothing and household goods. There is also a popular Farmers' Market, which is staged once a month on the second Saturday, within the car park of the Maritime Experience attraction.
