Bruges Shopping and Districts

(Bruges, West Flanders, Belgium)

Photo of the central Market SquareTake a stroll around the main streets of Bruges and in no time at all you will encounter endless shopping opportunities, both large and small. With Belgian chocolate, lace and antiques being at the top of the shopping lists of many a tourist, Bruges is also a great place to sample some truly authentic Belgian beer.

There are so many shops around central Bruges that if you were to cover the city centre with a flat roof, then it would closely resemble an actually shopping mall. Keen followers of fashion will find the city's many boutiques a particular treat.

Where to Shop

The best selection of shops in Bruges are centred around the busy shopping street of Steenstraat, next to the Markt, Kemelstraat and Zilverstraat. Also close by, check out the shops lining the Geldmuntstraat, the Mariastraat, the Muntpoort and the Oude Burg. When shopping in Bruges, as with the rest of Belgium, do bear in mind that you should be able to reclaim the tax back for large purchases.

For something a little different when shopping in Bruges, head to the lively Wednesday market on the city square, where an array of local produce, fruit and vegetables are for sale. Tintin fans should also pay a visit to the city's very own Tintin Shop on the Steenstraat, which features endless memorabilia about this famous and much-loved Belgian comic-book character.
