(Linz, Upper Austria, Austria)

Popular options include Austrian beer, chocolate confectionary, Linz Cake (Linzer Torte), handmade pottery, and the famous nougat sweets known as Linzer Bruckner Noten.

The shopping hours in Linz can vary a little, but in general, most shops choose to open between the hours of 09:00 and 17:30 or 18:00 from Monday to Friday, and again on Saturday, from 09:00 to 12:30, although larger stores usually close much later, at around 17:00. During the week, some of the small shops and newsagents may stay open until 19:30 or even 20:00.

Where to Shop

Central Linz is the best place to go shopping, and in particular, along the busy pedestrianised thoroughfare of the Landstrasse. Located within the Old Town (Altstadt) area of Linz, the Landstrasse has become a busy shopping street, being close to both the Blumauerplatz and Hauptplatz, and on the southern side of the River Danube. During the summer, each week more than 200,000 people shop on the Landstrasse, making this the second busiest shopping street in the whole of Austria, second only to the Mariahilferstrasse in Vienna.

The Landstrasse runs parallel with the Herrenstrasse and these two busy stretches are connected by the Arkade shopping mall, where you will find a mixture of international and local retail outlets, competing side by side. Two further shopping centres are located within the city centre - Passage Linz and the Atrium City Centre, both of which are home to a number of flagship stores and often much-needed coffee shops.
