The Hauptplatz - More than just a big square!
You're hardly likely to miss the Hauptplatz - it's the biggest enclosed square in the whole of Austria and measures over 200 metres on its widest part. It is surrounded by lots of lovely Austraian architecture wit many Baroque and Renaissance features, like the Town Hall. Saturday markets are sometimes held here. We went shopping on the Landstrasse, which is nearby.

Don't miss the Ars Electronica Centre when you come to Linz
We were told - 'If you go to Linz, go to the Ars Electronica Centre' - on the Hauptstrasse. To be honest, there is so much hype about it that we would have probably found it out for ourselves, but whatever, I'm glad that we did make it here anyway, really glad. The computer simulations were very exciting and realistic - some people we suspended to make it feel like they were flying. It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The Trinity Column
The centrepiece of the Hauptplatz square is the Trinity Column. It has put up for several reasons, namely to celebrate the fact that Linz had survived wars and natural disasters, like the plague. Look at the beautiful statues around the column - these are actually patron saints of the city.
