Linz Restaurants and Dining

(Linz, Austria)

Central imageThe traditional cuisine of Upper Austria is well represented at many of the restaurants and eateries within Linz. When dining out here you can expect to encounter a variety of different dumplings and dark breads, with the cuisine of Linz being strongly influenced by its proximity to Bavaria (Germany) and Bohemia (Czech Republic).

A particular speciality served at the end of many a meal in the city is the Linzer Torte, a sweet Austrian tart usually filled with nuts, and plum butter or fruit jam, and topped with dough. Restaurants in Linz vary greatly in price and many choose to close on Sundays, so there is often little choice on this day.

Where to Eat

Restaurants in Linz are based around the centre and many traditional Austrian beer gardens line the banks of the River Danube. A definite cluster of dining options are to be found around the Bahnhofplatz and the Landstrasse, within the Altstadt district. The Hauptplatz, the city's main square, is where the best selection of eateries are to be found, ranging from takeaways and bakeries, to bars, coffee shops and upmarket restaurants.

For something quite different and unique, jump aboard the Postlingbergbahn mountain railway and pay a visit to the exclusive restaurant atop the Pöstlingberg, where the views of Linz are breathtaking. However, dining reservations are quite essential due to its small size and extreme popularity.
