Atlantic City's airport is well connected with the outside world and provides the fastest access to the city, with a range of ground transport and travel options. New York City's and Philadelphia's busy airports are also within reach of the Atlantic City area.

The Atlantic City Expressway runs past the airport and provides a major travel route into the city, also connecting with Philadelphia, while the Garden State Parkway runs down from New York. Regular deals with the casinos and Greyhound buses offer good incentives to travel to Atlantic City by bus, while Amtrak and NJ Transit trains provide rail access. Cheap minibuses offer efficient travel and transport options along the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Atlantic City's international airport is conveniently located near the city and receives flights from around the globe as well as from numerous cities in the US. For travel to and from the city, take the Atlantic City Expressway that runs right past the airport. Cape Road and Atlantic Avenue run out from the airport onto Delliah Road, which links up with the Atlantic City Expressway via highway 9; the journey is about 30 minutes and 14 miles / 22 km. Car Rental

Atlantic City is easy to travel to by road from both New York and Philadelphia. Coming from New York, head for the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) via the Lincoln or Holland tunnels or, alternatively, the George Washington Bridge. Take the I-95 southwest and then travel south onto highway 206 on a heading for Mansfield, continuing all the way south to the Atlantic City Expressway near Hamonton. Head southeast from here along the expressway to Atlantic City. The journey from Philadelphia goes along the I-76 to State Road 42, which leads onto the Atlantic City Expressway. Buses and Coaches

It is fairly straightforward getting to Atlantic City by bus from New York and Philadelphia if you are flying into one of those cities and don't fancy driving. Greyhound and NJ Transit both travel to the Convention Center at Atlantic and Michigan avenues, two blocks from Atlantic City's Boardwalk. Additionally, Academy Bus Lines has a direct service from New York to several Boardwalk casinos. There are also bus travel packages offered by many of Atlantic City's casinos from major northeast cities. Departures are usually for day trips and the casinos and tickets are well-priced with incentives thrown in.

Trains

The Atlantic City line, operated by NJ Transit, runs a regular service from Philadelphia; an easy 90-minute journey. A shuttle bus awaits the arrival of every train for free transport to Atlantic City's casinos. There are several train departures every day to Philadelphia with Amtrak (90 minutes) but none direct. Amtrak trains also travel to Atlantic City from Philadelphia.

Trams

The efficient and popular Rolling Chairs run the length of the Boardwalk to provide novelty transportation between casinos and shops. These hand-pushed carriages run throughout the day and into the evening and also come with experienced guides. If you are moving between the casinos along Pacific Avenue, one block behind and parallel with the Boardwalk, the Atlantic City Jitney are a fleet of minibuses that travel along this route 24 hours a day.

Taxis

Taxi options to hotels and casinos from the airport are with Yellow Van and Atlantic City Airport Taxis, but within Atlantic City itself, Atlantic City Jitney buses provide cheaper transport, while the Rolling Chairs are a novelty travel option.
