Atlantic City is not overwhelmed by green areas and you have to head down to the beautiful Cape May for its spacious parks and gardens. However, Atlantic City's Oscar E. McClinton, Jr Waterfront Park in town is a great place to take the kids and count your winnings.

Farther afield and close to Atlantic City, Cape May boasts the Point State Park, with its beautiful scenery and many activities, while Leaming's Run Gardens recreates life back in the 18th century and the Nature Center of Cape May features prime beach and marshland.

This natural habitat for migrating sea and shore birds brings tourists and enthusiasts in their thousands to observe these impressive creatures and take part in the many sporting activities in the area. Close to Atlantic City, the park covers over 200 acres / 80 hectares of diverse landscape featuring shoreline, dunes, marshland, islands and forests and the fishing here is superb. There are also plenty of walking trails and the Cape May Lighthouse, a museum and a visitors' center provide alternatives.

Nature Center of Cape May

Located next to the Cape May Harbor to the south of Atlantic City, the Nature Center of Cape May is part of the New Jersey Audubon Society and is situated on 18 acres of beach, marshland and meadow. There are educational activities, tours and exhibits on the park.

Leaming's Run Gardens

Not far from highway 9 in the northern part of Cape May, Leaming's Run Gardens, once home of the Leaming family, who lived here in the 1700s, features 22 theme gardens, a museum covering life on the farm and plenty of chickens, goats and sheep.

Oscar E. McClinton, Jr Waterfront Park

Dedicated to Oscar E. McClinton, Jr, a generous Atlantic City resident, the waterfront park is located on the northeast side of Atlantic City and features 4 acres / 1.5 hectares of manicured lawn area that is surrounded by a colonnade and walkways. The park also boasts a children's play area, a boardwalk promenade and a central pavilion for sitting and viewing the sea.
