Baltimore's airport is a highly efficient gateway, while ground transportation comprises rail, light-rail, bus and taxi travel services that are well-known for their efficiency.

Unlike many major US cities, driving conditions in Baltimore are tame in comparison and might even be described as pleasant.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) / Arriving by Air

Baltimore-Washington International Airport is the state of Maryland's chief air gateway and services an average of 55,000 passengers per day via a single 12-gate terminal. Ground transportation options from the airport into the city are plentiful and include shuttle, train travel, taxi and car rental. Car Rental

Car rentals are available from either the airport or from reputable companies in the city and while driving conditions in Baltimore are not especially hazardous, visitors can expect to experience jams at peak times. A total of five Interstates, including I-83, I-95, I-695, I-795 and I-895, serve the city to some degree or another.

Buses and Coaches

Baltimore's Greyhound bus terminal is located three blocks west of the downtown area and operates regular services which travel from Baltimore to neighboring cities, as well as to a range of other major US destinations.

Trains

Amtrak runs services to a variety of destinations from Baltimore's Penn Station, which is located just a mile north of downtown Baltimore. The MARC train service also operates from Penn station to local destinations, while there is also a light rail service which provides travel from Hunt Valley to Glen Burnie with various stops in Baltimore City.

Taxis

Yellow cabs are available throughout Baltimore city, while ring and ride travel services are provided by a variety of private companies. Many illegal taxis operate in the city and visitors in Baltimore are advised to avoid them for obvious safety reasons.
