If you are an art lover visiting Indianapolis, then you shouldn't struggle to find venues to indulge your interest here. In particular, both the Indianapolis Art Center and the Museum of Art provide an eclectic mix of local and international art work, giving visitors a broad viewing experience. Part of the White River State Park, the downtown Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is also especially noteworthy and known for its Native American treasures.


Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA)

Situated on the northern side of the city and close to the Woodstock Country Club, the Indianapolis Museum of Art was established in 1883 and is home to a wide selection of art work by both American and international artists, on display in spacious art galleries. Works by artists such as El Greco and Rubens feature among the most notable, with many more by American Impressionists and European neo-impressionists worthy of mention. Works of Japanese and African origin also make this world-class gallery well worth a visit. The gardens and grounds are also worthy of attention and comprise the Oldfield estate, and the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park.

Ruschman Art Gallery

The Ruschman Art Gallery stands next to the Pleasant Run Golf Club and features works by both local and international artists, which it displays in exhibitions that change on a monthly basis. The facility has been open since 1985 and is currently called home by two art galleries in total.

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

Part of the campus of the Indiana Purdue University, the Indianapolis Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art is home to one of America's largest collections of Native American and Western art. There are a number of galleries at this facility, each housing a collection from a different genre. Visiting exhibitions are common to the museum and complement the already impressive permanent ones. Of note, sightseers may also like to pay a visit to the adjacent Indiana State Museum, or to the nearby Indiana State Capitol building, which is just one block away.

Indianapolis Art Center

The Indianapolis Art Center is a non-profit making facility aimed at promoting visual arts to the community and visitors alike. The center's gallery features work largely by local artists and those living within a 250-mile / 400-km radius of the city. Besides the gallery, the facility has a school of art and a cultural complex.

Stutz Art Gallery

Operated by the Stutz Artists Association and located within the characterful Stutz Business Center building, the Stutz Art Gallery is to be found in the downtown area of Indianapolis and features works by both local and national artists. Exhibits are open to the public and rotate on a monthly basis.
