Tampa Hotels and Accommodation

(Tampa, Florida - FL, USA)

A busy port city and appealing Floridian tourist destination, the city of Tampa comes with a good selection of accommodation to choose from around both the downtown district and the Ybor City area. However, due to Tampa's popularity during the peak season (January to April), hotels and guest houses will often filled to capacity, making reservations necessary at least several weeks in advance

Accommodation rates in Tampa are extremely seasonal and vary greatly according to demand, with summer lodging being considerably cheaper than during the busier winter months. Hotels are also known to offer enticing weekend packages, to make sure that their occupancy levels remain as high as possible.

Where to Stay

There are a number of hotels close to the Tampa International Airport (TPA), which is just 8 km / 5 miles west of the city and near to the Town 'n' Country area. Accommodation within easy reach of Tampa Airport includes the onsite Marriott Hotel, which is a mere two-minute walk from the terminals and a particularly popular option with business travelers. Also close by is the Hyatt Place on West Main Street, the Sheraton Suites on West Cypress Street, and the Hilton Garden Inn on the Avion Park Drive, which lies just off the Interstate I-75.

Budget lodging in Tampa abounds around the Busch Gardens theme park, with cheap hotels and motels lining roads such as the Busch Boulevard (Highway US-580) and Fowler Avenue (Highway US-582). On the North Central Avenue is the Best Economy Inn, while on the University Center Drive is the Best Western All Suites, which is well-placed for those intending to pay a visit to the campus of the University of South Florida. If your budget is particularly tight, or you simply prefer camping to mainstream accommodation, then consider heading to the campsite at the northerly Hillsborough River State Park, which covers some 1,375 hectares / 3,400 acres and lies off the North Highway US-301.

This part of Florida features a wealth of mid-range hotels, with popular chain lodging and historical inns. Some popular accommodation choices include the Sailport Waterfront Suites Hotel on the Rocky Point Drive, where views of the Tampa Bay harbor are quite exceptional. On the East 9th Avenue, the Hilton Garden Inn is a good choice if you are looking to stay within the Ybor City area, while on West Fortune Street, the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel stands near to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. Further lodging options present themselves outside of the city, in nearby Brandon, Lutz and Temple Terrace, suiting those prepared to commute to attractions.

For some serious pampering and luxury accommodation in Tampa, splash out on a night or two at the four-star Westin Tampa Bay on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, where waterfront panoramas come as standard. Somewhat cheaper and still very much upmarket is the Sheraton Riverwalk Hotel on North Ashley Street, which overlooks the Hillsborough River, and the Westin Tampa Harbour Island on the South Harbour Island Boulevard, across the Garrison Channel.
