Travel within Tallahassee is best done on foot, with the downtown district easily navigable. Operated by TalTran, local bus transport provides a convenient means of reaching downtown from the Greyhound bus terminal, from where there are frequent connections, which travel to and from Tallahassee, other Florida cities and major centers farther afield.

Meanwhile, the city can also be accessed by rail and air transport, with Amtrak providing frequent travel to the east and west, and the Tallahassee Regional Airport servicing flights to both regional and international destinations.

Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH) / Arriving by Air

Commercial carriers operating from the Tallahassee Regional Airport include Continental, Delta Air, Gulfstream, Northwest and US Airways. While not one of the biggest air transport hubs in the region, facilities at the airport are good and the terminal comes with eateries, snack bars, coffee and gift shops, a business center and a gallery. Flights arrive from a number of international destinations including Barcelona, Copenhagen, Hong Kong and some South American cities. Travel into central Tallahassee from the airport is made easy, with taxis, limousine transport, a bus service and hotel and airport shuttles all running regular services to the city's downtown area.


Car Rental

Renting a car is a convenient way to travel around should you wish to explore the surrounding areas of Florida. It is best to avoid driving during peak times, although you shouldn't find traffic in Tallahassee to be too problematic. Interstate 10 connects the city with Jacksonville to the east and Los Angeles to the west, while other highway links include the US 27, 90 and 319. Car rental transport agencies are well represented at the airport, with big names such as Alamo, Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, Dollar and National all operating from the Tallahassee Regional Airport. Buses and Coaches

Tallahassee has a Greyhound bus terminal situated centrally on Tennessee Street, only a few minutes walk from the downtown area. Greyhound transport operates connections with other US centers and is an inexpensive way to reach the city. Meanwhile local buses in Tallahassee are operated by TalTran, with the main local bus station situated across from the Greyhound terminal. Travel between the bus station and downtown is free using the Old Town Trolley, a popular form of transport which runs to the center and back at ten-minute intervals on weekdays.

Trains

Amtrak transport runs rail links which travel to and from Tallahassee Station, situated west of downtown. The east-west service aboard the transcontinental Sunset makes stops in Los Angeles, Jacksonville, New Orleans, Orlando and Miami.

Several taxi travel agencies operate in Tallahassee and offer various forms of transport, including vans and minibus services. Taxis can be booked 24 hours a day via telephone or alternatively, some local firms will pick passengers up in the street.
