Tallahassee Downtown Parks
This really is a green city and downtown has a lot of parks and nice green spaces. Park Avenue earned its name because it connects a number of these central parks, disected by the east / west streets. Each of these areas has grass, seating and some really big oak trees. We really liked Lewis OPark, which was one of the biggest and best. At lunchtime, a lot of the nearby workers come here to eat their lunch. We had a small picnic there ourselves and quickly forgot that we were actually in the middle of a great big American city.

Strolling around the historical downtown district
We went for a walk around the downtown district in Tallahasse and enjoyed taking in the many sights. There were a lot of lovely restored buildings from the end of the 19th century or thereabouts. There are some nice Art Deco style skysrapers from the 1920s and these sure add a lot of character to the city. We started at Monroe Street and walked towards Adams Street. The Florida Capitol buildings are the main landmarks here. The New Capitol Building was built in 1977 and stands directly behind the 19th-century Old Capitol Building. Tallahasse became the capital of Florida in 1824, which gives you an idea of how important this city is.
