Having gained state park status in 1953, the Alfred B. Maclay State Gardens in Tallahassee offer visitors delightful gardens which incorporate floral architecture and a turn-of-the-century historic home. An abundance of different flower species can be seen here, as well as native and exotic plants. There are also numerous attractions and activities in which visitors can partake in, including walking along the nature trails, hiking, cycling, swimming, boating and fishing. Guided tours of the gardens are available.

Goodwood Plantation, Gardens and Museum

Originally a cotton and corn plantation, the turn-of-the-century Goodwood Plantation, Gardens and Museum encompasses 19 acres / 7 hectares of antebellum houses and gardens. Formerly host to numerous significant social and political functions, this once larger estate is one of the best preserved collections of homes from this period, complete with their original fittings and furnishings, making the plantation well worth a visit.

Mission San Luis

Tallahassee's historic site of Mission San Luis attracts thousands of visitors each year, who come to see the former Spanish and Indian village, first settled in 1656 and only abandoned in 1704. Guided tours of the main attractions are available, while the ongoing excavations continue to reveal interesting facts about the settlement. Exhibits and reconstructions help visitors to trace the history of this 60-acre / 24-hectare site.
