Tallahassee Hotels and Accommodation

(Tallahassee, Florida - FL, USA)

Tallahassee is a popular part of Florida and hotels here are especially plentiful. There is no distinct low or high season in the Tallahassee area and accommodation generally remains reasonably priced. During the famous FAMU and FSU football weekends in September, October and November, city hotels can quickly become completely booked, including those nearby the Doak Campbell Stadium (capacity 80,000+ spectators). Therefore, advance lodging reservations are particularly necessary at this time of the year.

Hotels in Tallahassee are especially busy during Florida State University's graduation month of May, and again around the state legislature's 60-day sitting, which commences every March. The Springtime Festival is also a hectic time and each year reliably draws more than 200,000 visitors to the city, many of whom will be looking for accommodation.

Lodging availability is also greatly influenced when large events are staged at the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center, where the multi-purpose arena Donald L. Tucker Center is located and capable of accommodating audiences of just under 14,000 people.

Where to Stay

The majority of hotels are situated in three areas of the city - within downtown Tallahassee, to the north of the downtown district (along North Monroe Street), and also on the Apalachee Parkway (to the east of downtown). Further hotels in the Tallahassee area can be found on the city outskirts, and also in nearby Florida towns and cities, such as:

Tallahassee's cheapest motels, hotels and inns tend to be clustered along Monroe Street, and around the exits lining the Interstate I-10. More budget accommodation is concentrated along the Apalachee Parkway, Graves Road, Hospitality Street, Raymond Diehl Road and Silver Slipper Lane. These include the Best Western Seminole Inn, the Days Inn, the Econo Lodge North, the Howard Johnson Express, the Ramada University Center and the Super 8 Motel.

Camping grounds are not available in the city as such, although the Tallahassee RV Park is nearby, standing on the Mahan Drive / US-90. Also of note is the Tallahassee East KOA, in neighboring Monticello, which is another popular camp site and includes tent pitches and inexpensive 'Kamping Kabins'. Further camping sites stand within the nearby Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, the Apalachicola National Forest and the Lake Talquin State Park, while basic lodges are available at the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.

Mid-range hotels in Tallahassee are based around North Monroe Street, Raymond Diehl Road, South Adams Street, Thomasville Road and the West Lakeshore Drive, amongst other stretches. Notable three-star accommodation includes the Governor's Inn on South Adams Street, which stands close to the Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science, and the campus of the Florida State University. Also highly recommended is the Staybridge Suites Tallahassee Hotel I-10 East on the Summit Lake Drive, where lakeside gardens will enhance your stay.
