While Jacksonville is perhaps not up there alongside Florida's most popular cities such as Orlando and Tampa, Jacksonville still retains a reputation for being a happening city on account of its coastal districts and neighborhoods, thriving cultural scene and solid visitor infrastructure.

Visitors or residents with cars will also find that the city of Jacksonville is within reasonable driving distance of some of the state's biggest attractions, such as Disneyworld and the Kennedy Space Center. Add to this some great museums and the largest concentration of parks in Florida and it's easy to see why Jacksonville makes for a sound holiday destination.


Downtown District

Jacksonville's downtown district is the city's main hub of activity where visitors will find a variety of unique destinations and attractions. Art and culture are high on the district's agenda and regular festivals, exhibitions, shows and concerts are commonplace here. Added to that is the area's pleasant riverside ambiance and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Jacksonville Beach District

The Jacksonville Beach district is situated to the east of the city between the Intra-Coastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean and is home to mile upon mile of golden sandy beaches. This district is home to business and residential communities as well as being a popular visitor resort. Highlights in the Jacksonville Beach district include great cuisine, entertainment, shopping and pleasant oceanfront hotels.

Jacksonville Port District

The port district of the city is a busy area under the care of Jacksonville Port Authority and is home to a full-service international trade seaport. Jacksonville Port features three public marine terminals and a fourth terminal dedicated to passenger cruises. Visitors to this area can take trips from here to Freeport, Nassau and Key West.

Riverside Avondale Historic District

Jacksonville's Riverside Avondale Historic District is situated on the border of the St. Johns River and stretches from Memorial Park to Fishweir Creek. The district is made up of over 30 subdivisions and boasts three major parks. The district makes for a pleasant visit and provides sights of scenic oak-lined streets and historic houses.
