Jacksonville is something of a cultural center and as such offers both residents and visitors a healthy art scene, with numerous galleries and related museums. Galleries in the city showcase works in all media and by artists of local, national and international acclaim.

Many of the city's museums are art-themed, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in culture. The Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is one of the city's most popular art galleries and is actually amongst the biggest art institutions of its kind in the whole of southeastern America, being managed by the University of North Florida since 2009. Established as far back as 1924, this museum was originally known as the Jacksonville Fine Arts Society and moved to its present home in 1999, where it continues to occupy the Western Union Telegraph Building.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is a facility dedicated to the exploration of diverse cultural themes and to increasing public awareness of art and creative media though collections, exhibitions and educational programs. The permanent galleries showcase works by many leading modernists, such as Hans Hofmann, Joan Mitchell and Ed Paschk, while on the fourth floor, exhibitions are rotated three or four times each year. Art films are shown regularly at the facility's in-house cinema.

Harn Museum of Art

Located just a short distance from Jacksonville in neighboring Gainesville, the Harn Museum of Art is home to a large collection of art from various regions and periods including African, Asian and Ancient American works. At the weekend, visitors to the facility can take a guided tour from one of the museum's docents or peruse the collections and exhibitions at their own free will.

Design Circus Gallery

At the Design Circus Gallery visitors can view an outstanding collection of original art works, which includes oils, watercolors and etchings. Most of the pieces on display are available for purchase.

Fairfax Gallery

Fairfax Gallery has been a popular art center among locals for 15 years and features a wide selection of works by regional, national and international artists. The museum's Venice Collection includes works by Louise Freshman Brown, Bob Fagin, Alynne Sharp and Larry Wilson.

Pedestrian Gallery of Contemporary Art

At the R. Roberts Gallery, visitors can view a wide selection of works in an equally wide range of media. Original paintings, sculptures, furniture and serigraphs are on display at the facility which has displayed works by prestigious names such as Dr. Seuss and Mackenzie Thorpe. The gallery is also home to one of America's biggest collections of sculptures by Frederick Hart.
