The River Valley makes up North America's biggest area of parkland and is home to an enormous range of seasonal activities, which include summer hiking trails and winter skiing.

Contrasting with the natural appearance of the River Valley parks, Edmonton's striking Muttart Conservatory and beautifully landscaped Devonian Botanic Gardens are two of the city's premier attractions.




Muttart Conservatory

A major horticultural and architectural attraction in its own right, the Muttart Conservatory complex consists of four stylish, pyramid structures, each dedicated to different climatic conditions and environments. Housing almost 1,000 different plant species, including many exotic specimens, Muttart Conservatory stands in the scenic River Valley area.

Devonian Botanic Gardens

The Devonian Botanic Gardens are located on the city's outskirts, close to the University of Alberta. With around 80 acres / 32 hectares of landscaped gardens, the Devonian Botanic Gardens also feature more than 100 acres / 40 hectares of open, natural areas, where local flora and fauna flourish. The Botanic Gardens have become a major research center for all things horticultural, and each year host many popular seasonal events. End your day here by visiting the extensive gift shop, where you will find a range of garden-related souvenirs.

Hermitage Park

Part of the enormous group of River Valley parks, Hermitage Park lies on the northern side of Edmonton, close to the Yellowhead Trail. Containing a scenic mix of mature trees, river views, and open grassland areas, seasonal activities here include hiking trails, trout fishing and skiing during the winter months.

Mill Creek Ravine Park

Mill Creek Ravine Park is close to the Muttary Conservatory and part of the River Valley area. John Janzen Nature Center

Located in the River Valley area of Edmonton, the John Janzen Nature Center is known for its nature trails and seasonal events, where an understanding of local wildlife is imparted. Laurier Park
