EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL) Information
(Basel, Basel-Stadt, Switzerland)
The Basel Mulhouse Freiburg Euro Airport straddles the French-Swiss border, being just across the Rhine River from
Germany. A border road leads to the Swiss customs area, which is situated across from the main terminal and interestingly stands entirely on French territory. French, German and Swiss citizens can all bypass border and customs restrictions during their time in this unique multinational airport.
In less than 20 years, the Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg EuroAirport's annual passenger throughput has increased from two million to slightly over five million. The terminal, which lies partly in
France and partly in
Switzerland, expanded in 2005 and is now divided into non-Schengen and Schengen zones.
Air Transat offers seasonal flights to
Montreal,
Canada, in addition to flights connecting a long list of direct European and Northern African destinations. This airport is among the few in the world with three different IATA codes, because of its unusual international location.
