Torremolinos Neighborhoods, Locations and Districts

Torremolinos is without doubt one of the most famous resorts along the Costa del Sol and was once a busy fishing village. In recent years, much of the resort has been both remodelled and renovated, restoring the popularity of Torremolinos as a notable tourist destination once more.

The resort contains a number of notable districts, locations and neighbouring regions. Often considered a suburb, the Benalmadena area is a particularly scenic spot, with much to offer, including an important marina and nearby beaches. Much of life here is based around the long seafront promenade, with plenty of attractions located nearby. Also worth a mention is central Torremolinos, where you will find the Calle San Miguel, the area's main pedestrian thoroughfare.

Nearby, the areas of both Arroyo de La Miel and Torrequebrada are close to Torremolinos, with recreational activities here being plentiful.

Paseo Maritimo District

Located alongside the seafront, the Paseo Maritimo is a long promenade, edging the main part of the Torremolinos coastline. Lined with seafood restaurants and gift shops, the Paseo Maritimo is the perfect place for a stroll alongside the beach, offering impressive coastal views.

Central District

The main pedestrian artery in Torremolinos, the Calle San Miguel stretches for around 500 metres / 1,640 feet from the Plaza Costa del Sol to the Playa del Bajondillo. To the southwest of this area lies the Playa de la Cariheaula, which was once the region's main fishing quarter.

Beaches

Both longer and wider than many of the beaches along the Costa del Sol, the beaches in the resort of Torremolinos stretch for around 7 km / 4.5 miles and are the area's main draw card, being particularly suitable for families and children of all ages. Some of the most popular beaches along the coast include the Playa de Bajondillo - close to Bajondillo, the Playa de La Carihuela - stretching for around 2,000 metres / 6,560 feet, the Playa de Montemar - on the western side of Torremolinos, and the Playa de Playamar - with suitable conditions for both windsurfing and other water sports. Also worth a mention, the Playas de San Julian can be found on the outskirts and is a vast sandy beach, which is often fairly quiet.

Benalmadena Costa

A particularly impressive part of the coastline, the Benalmadena Costa is where you will find the award-winning Puerto Marina, which can be reached along a scenic promenade. The marina itself is central to life in the Benalmadena Costa district and contains countless shops, a good selection of restaurants, and a range of tourist attractions, including the Sea Life Centre, which features over 5,000 sea creatures from all around the world. Other impressive highlights in and around the Benalmadena Costa include Selwo Marina - a popular family theme park containing dolphins, penguins, sea lions and exotic birds.

Arroyo de La Miel

Situated around 8 km / 5 miles to the southeast of Torremolinos, Arroyo de La Miel is a commercial village with a number of notable tourist attractions. Best known for being home to the Tivoli World theme park, which contains around 35 different fast rides, including exciting roller coasters, Arroyo de La Miel also features some truly spectacular scenery. Regular cable cars travel to the top of Mount Calmorro, which stands around 600-metres / 1,970-feet high and offers magnificent panoramic views of the area. For those looking for quiet respite away from the beaches of Torremolinos, a trip to La Paloma Park in Arroyo de La Miel will not disappoint, where you will find a large lake full of waterfowl, together with walking trails and seating areas.

Torrequebrada District

Torrequebrada stands around 6 km / 4 miles from Torremolinos and is home to a number of notable leisure activities and pursuits, including Torrequebrada Golf Club - one of the area's best 18-hole golf courses, appealing to all levels of golfer. Also popular in this area, the Casino Torrequebrada contains a good selection of gaming tables and slot machines, as well as a restaurant area and nightclub, located in the Hotel Torrequebrada complex.
