San Gimignano Hotels and Accommodation

(San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy)

Photo of the Piazza della CisternaSan Gimignano has recently be listed as one of the world's most noteworthy tourist destinations and as such, its hotels have never been busier. During the high season, you really have very little chance of finding available accommodation unless you have pre-booked first.

However, there is always a chance that the San Gimignano tourist office may be able to locate hotels, which will be able to accommodate you, although you should always expect to pay through the nose for these rooms. Also worth bearing in mind, a helpful branch of the Siena Hotels Promotion company is located within the southern gateway, on the Via San Giovanni.

Where to Stay

The lodging finding service offered by the town's tourist office is completely free of charge and some tourists holidaying in San Gimignano are especially interested in private rooms, farm-stay accommodation, known locally as 'agriturismi', and also 'affittacamere', where several bedrooms share a lesser number of bathrooms and even a kitchen.

A number of the most central hotels in San Gimignano are located around the Piazza del Duomo, the Piazza della Cisterna, and the adjacent Via del Castello, with the most popular including the Leon Bianco and La Cisterna, the latter of which come complete with vaulted ceilings and extravagant chandeliers.

For something rather unusual, budget lodging in San Gimignano is often available at the Foresteria Monastero di San Girolamo, a historic monastery run entirely by nuns and featuring simple, but spacious guest rooms.
